Inmates in the Greene County Jail will move into a new state-of-the-art facility sometime after the first of June but before that happens, Greene County’s citizens will get a chance to walk through and inspect the new building. The public is invited to tour the new jail this Thursday evening, May 23, from 5-7 p.m.

Ramirez pleads guilty to driving drunk, causing tragic crash

On Friday, May 18 in 2018, Jeremiah Murphy lost his life in a horrific crash involving two vehicles in eastern Greene County. Murphy’s two passengers, including his young child, were very seriously injured. Yesterday in Greene Superior Court, Raul Ramirez, accused of driving drunk and causing the crash, pleaded guilty to three felonies.

When a man required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life landed in Greene County last year, he registered at the sheriff’s department but allegedly gave incorrect information. Deputies were unable to locate him for months but he was tracked down and arrested. Last Thursday he was charged with a felony.

Suspicious behavior led a deputy to stop at a residence in Lyons last week to inquire about a man wanted in two counties.  The man was found hiding in a closet and arrested. So were three other people after evidence of marijuana use in plain view resulted in a search warrant.

Wanted man in custody

After getting a deal then asking for a delay before he had to turn himself in to serve time last month, a man convicted of criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon in an incident of gunfire in Linton last year, didn’t show up as promised. A warrant was issued but his whereabouts were unknown. Now’s he behind bars serving his time.

Updated with arrest: Fake name worked once before, but it didn’t work this time

UPDATE: Victor Antonio Giyer, 19, of Bloomfield, was arrested on Tuesday, May 7, and booked in to the Greene County Jail where his bond was set at $4,000 surety with ten percent cash allowed. Court records initially listed Giyer with a Bloomington address but jail records list him with a Bloomfield address.
