Livingston, Alfred Eugene

Alfred Eugene Livingston of Worthington, Indiana lost his life on December 7, 1941 in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, while serving with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Oklahoma.  He was 23 years old at the time, born in Worthington in Greene County, Indiana, on August 30, 1918, the son of Lenora Livingston Price and grandson of Henry and Alvira Livingston who raised him.

Livingston joined the U.S. Navy on January 14, 1941 in Indianapolis and had arrived in Hawaii on Saturday, September 11, 1941.

At the time of his death, survivors included his grandmother, Alvira Livingston; his mother, Lenora Price; and siblings Raymond Livingston, Ruth Price Resler, Louise Price Hobbs and Harold Price.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, numerous victims, including Livingston, were unable to be identified and were buried as unknowns in Hawaii.

In April, 2007, Livingston's remains were positively identified by the Central Identification Laboratory at Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii.

Current survivors include his sister, Louise Hobbs, and several neices and nephews, including Ken Livingston, formerly of Worthington.

The U.S. Navy will return the remains of Mr. Livingston to his hometown late in the week of July 15.

A memorial service with full military honors will be held at the Worthington Cemetery on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. when Mr. Livingston is laid to rest near the graves of his grandparents, mother and other family members.

Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington is handling the arrangements.

It is nice to have a son of this nation's navy, a hero of the "greatest generation" finally be identified and brought home to be laid to rest. Rest in peace forever now, Alfred!
