Bill I. Jackson, or Brownie Jackson, of Worthington, Indiana passed away at 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. He was 87 years old, born March 4, 1919 in Linton, Indiana, the son of William Jackson and Lurca Storey Jackson.
Brownie Jackson was a barber in Indianapolis and Worthington, and retired from White River Valley Worthington School, where he worked in maintenance and as a bus driver. He was U.S. Army Veteran of WW II and was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Linton, the Worthington American Legion and the Worthington V. F. W.
Survivors include his wife, Orilla Jackson, the former Orilla Calvert; four sons, William Jackson and wife Michal Jackson of Newark, Delaware, Ronald Jackson and wife Laurie Jackson of Terre Haute, Indiana, Russell Jackson and wife Marion Jackson of Annandale, Virginia, and Randall Jackson and wife Nancy Jackson of Shelburn, Indiana; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joetta Adams of Burne, Indiana and Willetta Ellis and husband Mike Ellis of Bloomington, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington with Rev. Bill Beckelheimer officiating. Friends called at the funeral home from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2 and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. The place of burial was Worthington Cemetery.
