Hamlin, Donald P.

Donald P. Hamlin of Worthington passed away on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at Greene County General Hospital in Linton, Indiana. He was 67 years old, born May 19, 1940, in Greene County, Indiana, the son of Herschel and Iva Grace (Arthur) Hamlin.

Donnie was a carpenter, operated his own remodeling business and farmed.

Survivors include his wife, Janice (Johnson) Hamlino of Worthington; 0ne daughter, Cami (James) Bredeweg of Lyons; two granddaughters, Megan and Morgan Bredeweg, both of Lyons; two sisters-in-law, Glenda (Jim) Bruce of Pittsboro and Susan (Doc) Herndon of Jasonville; one brother-in-law, Paul “Mick” (Devonna) Johnson of Midland; nine nieces and nephews, 21 great -nieces and nephews and two great-great-nephews; and three cousins, Earlene (Arkie) Vandeventer of Worthington, Joyce Shepherd of Bedford and Lois Duke of Mooresville.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A public graveside service was conducted Friday afternoon at the Worthington Cemetery with Buford Smith officiating. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society. Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington assisted with the arrangements.

Hill, Billy Gene

Hill%20Billy%20Gene.jpgBilly Gene Hill of Worthington passed away Monday, February 18, 2008 at his residence.  He was 72 years old, born February 1, 1936, in Texas, the son of Starley and Mamie Mildred (McMahan) Hill.

He was an oilfield worker in several states, was a U.S. Army Veteran, and a member of the Worthington Apostolic Church.

Survivors include his companion, Emma Tourangeau of Worthington; daughter, Shelba Fullen of Beaumont, Texas; son, Marcus Hill of Houston, Texas; two brothers, James Hill of Greensburg, Kentucky and Starley Hill, Jr. of New Mexico; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; step-children, Darren Tourangeau of Bloomington and Shannon Suarez of Riviera, Texas; four step-grandchildren and four step-great-granddaughters.

A funeral service was conducted at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington on Wednesday, February 20 with Bro. Tommy Shields officiating. The place of burial was Worthington Cemetery.

Koons, Mary K.

Mary K. Koons of Worthington and formerly of Bloomington passed away Sunday, February 10, 2008 at Bloomington Hospital. She was 94 years old, born February 2, 1914, in Monroe County, the daughter of Albert and Myrtle (Adams) Gross.

A retired school cook, she started as a cook at Grandview Elementary School and worked at several schools in the Monroe County Community School Corporation, retiring in 1976 from Fairview Elementary School.

She was a member of the Knightridge Baptist Church and attended the Worthington Christian Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Wright of Worthington; one stepdaughter, Martha Johnson of Solsberry; eight grandchildren, one great-grandson, and several step-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ruth Pate of Bloomington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dayle Koons, in 1996; one step-daughter, Dorothy Carmichael; three sisters, Lucille Parks, Gladys Ferguson and Margaret McDonald; and three brothers, Lloyd Gross, Russell Gross and Raymond Gross.

A funeral service was conducted Thursday, February 14 at Deremiah-Frye Mortuary, Greene & Harrell Chapel in Bloomington with Keith Bellinger officiating. The place of burial was Valhalla Memory Gardens in Bloomington.

Wilson, J. D.

J. D. Wilson of Bloomfield, Indiana, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at Bloomington Hospital.

He was 68 years old and was a shipping coordinator for C.P. Hall for 36 years, retiring in 2001.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Wilson; one daughter, Donna Poole of Worthington, Indiana; one sister, Carolyn Sue Hutchinson of Tishomingo, Mississippi; and two brothers, Walter Wilson and Johnny Wilson, both of Russellville, Alabama.

A funeral service was conducted at Whitaker Funeral Home in Gosport, Indiana. The place of burial was Gosport Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.

Fiscus, Clyde

Clyde Owen Fiscus of Eddyville, Kentucky, formerly of Worthington, Indiana, passed away Sunday, February 3, 2008, at Caldwell County Hospital in Princeton, Kentucky. He was 91 years old, born March 21, 1916, in Owen County, Indiana, the son of Benjamin and Lula (Franklin) Fiscus.

He was a 1935 graduate of Worthington High School where he played on the football team all four years. He was a retired trainmaster, having worked for New York Central Railroad, Penn Central Railroad, and A. W. W. Railroad, where he retired. While working for the NYC Railroad, he brought the first diesel engine to Petersburg, Indiana, and taught engineers to run it.

He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Princeton, Kentucky, and the Moose Lodge in Petersburg, Indiana. He was a member of the Methodist Church in Worthington.

Survivors include his wife, Maudie (Purdue Potts) Fiscus, whom he married August 12, 1963; one daughter, Sherry Brewster of Washington, Indiana; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Lynne Fiscus of Petersburg; a stepdaughter, Lynn Faith of Washington; a stepson and his wife, Tony and Paula Potts of Washington; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Blanche McBride of Spencer, Indiana; and one brother, Stanley Fiscus of Spencer.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Kristy Brewster; two sisters; and three brothers.

A funeral service was conducted Wednesday, February 6, at Gill Chapel in Washington with Pastor James Payton officiating. The place of burial was Worthington Cemetery.
