Jerrell, Joan Sue (Sparks)

JoanJerrell.jpgJoan Sue Jerrell of Linton, Indiana, formerly of Worthington, passed away Friday evening, January 11, 2008, at Bloomington Hospital in Bloomington. She was 50 years old, born January 24, 1957, in Gary, Indiana, the daughter of Louis W. and Mary A. (Goodwin) Sparks.

She had worked at Worthington Wire Company (Woods Wire/Worthington Assembly) and at Greene County General Hospital in Linton as a dietary aid.  She attended the Switz City Full Gospel Church.

Survivors include her husband, Mike Jerrell of Linton to whom she was married on July 3, 1982; two sons, Louis Michael Jerrell and his wife, Christine, of Worthington and David Joe Jerrell of Linton; one brother, Phil Sparks and his wife, Tina, of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Janet Figg of Paxton and Lori Cooper and her husband, Chuck, of Terre Haute; and a granddaughter, Brianna McKenzie Jerrell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Samantha Brooke Jerrell; a brother, Tom Sparks; and a brother-in-law, Jim Figg.

A funeral services was conducted on Wednesday, January 16, at the Switz City Full Gospel Church with Pastor Sam Hill officiating. The place of burial was Walker Cemetery near Worthington.  Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton provided assistance with the arrangements.

Crody, Fern

Fern Crody of Linton and formerly of Bloomfield passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2008, at Glenburn Home in Linton. She was 93 years old, born October 20, 1914, in Newark, Indiana, the daughter of Willmot and Urah (Hoke) Resler.

She formerly owned and operated the Bloomfield Dry Goods Store. She was a member of the Better Business Association, BPW (Bloomfield Professional Women) and DAV Auxiliary, all of Bloomfield.  She was of the Baptist faith.

Survivors include three brothers, Lowell Resler of Bloomfield, Merl Resler of California and Dale Resler of New Albany; special friend, Laurel Helms of Bloomfield; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Ellett; second husband, Truman William "Bill" Crody; one brother, Harold Resler; one sister, Barbara Resler; and her parents.

A funeral service was conducted at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield on January 12 with Rev. Arlen Pope officiating. The place of burial was Prairie Chapel Cemetery near Lyons.

Carrell, Earl

EarlCarrell.jpgEarl Carrell of Worthington, Indiana, passed away Saturday morning, January 5, 2008, at the Heart Center of Indiana in Carmel.  He was 88 years old, born April 11, 1919 in Greene County, Indiana, the son of Riley and Minnie (Cullison) Carrell.

Mr. Carrell was a WWII Veteran of the U.S. Army and retired from Interstate Motor Freight in Indianapolis in 1978.  He was a member of the Worthington American Legion and a life member of Worthington V.F.W. Post 7117.

Survivors include his wife, Helen (McNeely) Carrell of Worthington; two daughters, Linda (Jack) Gadberry of Jasonville and Sue (Dennis) Bough of Worthington; two step-daughters, Pat Cobble of Worthington and Becky (Robert) Henry of Worthington; one step-son, Billie E. Lee of Martinsville; eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ruby (Weaver) Carrell, in 1978; one daughter, Norma L. Frye; and two brothers, Orville and Virgil Carrell.

A funeral service was conducted at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 8 with Randy Harris officiating. The place of burial was Worthington Cemetery.

Cooley, Dorothy

DorothyCooley.jpgDorothy Cooley of Freedom, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 4, 2008, at her home.  She was 80 years old, born October 31, 1927, in Brown County, Indiana, the daughter of Clarence and Zona (Sturgeon) Ault.  She was a homemaker and member of the Auxiliary of Worthington V.F.W. Post 7117.

Survivors include three children, Steve (Dianna) Cooley of Bloomington, Judy (Roger) West of Worthington and Harold Cooley of Freedom; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Leonard Ault of Columbus; three sisters, Doris Michaels of Nashville, Lola Friskey of Logansport and Bell Morgan of Logansport.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Walter H. Cooley, on October 6, 2006; and two brothers.

A graveside service was conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2008, at Mt. Zion Cemetery, south of Nashville, Indiana, on State Road 135, with Rev. Tommy Shields officiating.  Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington provided assistance with the arrangements.
