Strosnider, Carl M.

Carl M. Strosnider of Bloomington passed away at his residence early Saturday morning, December 29, 2007. He was 71 years old, born January 20, 1936, in Bloomfield, the son of Virgil and Mildred Busby Strosnider.

He graduated from Lyons High School in 1955 and then went on to serve his country from 1956 until 1959 in the U.S. Army. After his discharge he spent his career as a millwright with Cummins Engine Company in Columbus for 37 years, retiring in 1996. He was also involved with the B.P.O.E. in Bloomington.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Elsie Manis Strosnider of Bloomington; son Matthew Jay Strosnider of Bloomington; daughter Debra S. Pennington and husband Dennis of Orleans; daughter Embra Stillions and husband Andrew of Bloomington; daughter Nancy Dalton and husband Douglas of Springville; grandchildren Adam, Matthew and Eric Stillions, Ryan and Logan Lee and wife Kara Brandon Pennington, Hunter, Wyatt and Hillaree Dalton; great-granddaughter Alaina Stillions; brother Merlin Strosnider and wife Becky of Worthington; sister Marlene Goodwin and husband Joe of Lyons; and sister Joyce Ulrich of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his granddaughter-in-law Amanda Lee.

A funeral service was conducted Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Allen Funeral Home in Bloomington.

Noel, Oneta L.

Oneta L. Noel of Bloomfield, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, December 26, 2007 at Monroe Hospital in Bloomington.  She was 80 years old, born March 19, 1927 in Calvertville, Indiana, the daughter of Charles B. and Ona (Hunter) Crites.

She worked at Crane NSWC in the ordnance department, at Pielemeier Pharmacy in Bloomfield and at the Bloomfield School as a teachers aid.  She was a member of the Concord General Baptist Church in Calvertville.

Survivors include her husband, Marion A. Noel of Bloomfield; one son, Mark Noel of Bloomfield; two  daughters, Deborah Noel-Harshman of Bloomfield and Trudy Skidmore of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; one brother, Harwood Crites of Lewis, Indiana; twin sisters, Mable Johnson of Cicero, Indiana and Mary Sheets of Fort Wayne, Indiana; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Sam Noel; one infant brother; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service was held on Saturday, December 29 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield with Pastor Erin Raper and Rev. Galen Judy officiating.  The place of burial was Calvertville Cemetery.

Greenwood, Flossie Irene

uploaded-file-23635Flossie Irene Greenwood of Worthington, Indiana passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2007, at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute. She was 87 years old, born March 7, 1920 in Elnora, the daughter of Zack and May (Faith) Phillips.

She was a homemaker and attended the First Baptist Church in Worthington.

Survivors include three sisters, Virginia (Charles) Flynn of Fairland, Nellie (Wilford) Sircy of Elnora, Lelia Mottern of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Greenwood; three sisters and three brothers.

A funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington on Wednesday, January 2 with Rev. Bill Beckelheimer officiating.   The place of burial will be Worthington Cemetery.

Sinders, Lillian J.

uploaded-file-04031Lillian J. Sinders of Worthington, Indiana passed away Friday, December 28, 2007, at the home of her daughter in Jasonville. She was 103 years old, born April 13, 1904 in Clay County, the daughter of David and Saluda (Fulk) Johnson.

She was a homemaker, a member of the Worthington Christian Church, formerly a member of Pleasant Bethel United Methodist Church at Arney, and she was formerly a 4-H Leader in Owen County.

Survivors include one daughter, Beverly Jean (George) Sparks of Jasonville; two grandchildren, Niki (Rick) Jackson of Jasonville and Rick (Eva) Sparks of Worthington; five great-grandchildren, Jason (Sarah) Jackson, Jeremy (Shelly) Jackson, Joshua Jackson, Nichalas (Tasha) Sparks and Elizabeth (Sonny) Hollenbeck; eight great-great-grandchildren, Rebekah, Lenzie, Mackenzie, Shelby, Illiona, Daeon, Jareth and Ricki; and one step-great-great-granddaughter, Syleona; two neices and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rex Sinders, on February 16, 1993;  five sisters and one brother.

A funeral service was held at the Worthington Christian Church on Monday, December 31 with Bob Grider officiating.  The place of burial was Beech Cemetery in Coal City, Indiana.   Welch and Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington provided assistance with the arrangements. Wright, Jimmie K.

uploaded-file-68063Jimmie K. Wright of Linton, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2007 at his residence in Linton. He was 72 years old, born February 4, 1935 in Linton, the son of William D. “Button” and Edith (Dennis) Wright.

He formerly worked at Western Auto and the Bungalow, and owned the West Side IGA, the Linton Carwash and Linton Poultry, all in Linton.  He attended Bethel Baptist Church in Vicksburg, was a member of Masonic Lodge #560, Elks #866, Moose Lodge, and Fraternal Order of Police, all in Linton, and the Scottish Rite and Zorah Shrine, both in Terre Haute. 

He served as Chairman of the Greene County Democrat Party for fourteen years, as a Stockton Township Advisory Board member, as mayor of Linton from 1984 to 2004 and was a recipient of the Sagamore of the Wabash award.

Survivors include his wife, Connie S. (Workman) Wright, to whom he was married
Dec. 11, 1955; three sons, J. Kirk (Kathy) Wright, J. Ken (Tammy) Wright, and Jay Kevin (Michelle) Wright, all of Linton; a daughter, Jill K. (Jerry) Phegley of Linton; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Philbert “Fib” Wright; a sister, Wilma Jean Wright; and his parents.

A funeral services was conducted at the Linton First Baptist Church on Monday, December 31, with Rev. Doug Cassel officiating. The place of burial was Fairview Cemetery in Linton.  Welch & Cornett Funeral Home provided assistance with the arrangements.
