Connell, Ruth A.

Ruth A. Connell of Worthington, Indiana passed away at 12:10 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2007 at Linton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 71 years old, born June 10, 1935, the daughter of Julian Griffith and Florence Courtney Griffith.

Ruth Connell was a homemaker and waitress, and a member of the American Legion and V. F. W. Auxiliaries in Worthington.

Her family included: two daughters, Penny Bays of Switz City, Indiana and Julie Schaffer of Brown County, Indiana; one sister, Judy Willis of Worthington; one brother, Leo Griffith of Red Bluff, Califoria; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Connell, in 1985; and one sister, Gloria Connell.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2007 at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington with Rev. David Tyra officiating. Friends may call at Welch & Cornett from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 1 and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be given to Linton Nursing & Rehab.

Jackson, Bill I. "Brownie"

Bill I. Jackson, or Brownie Jackson, of Worthington, Indiana passed away at 3:40 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2007 at Greene County General Hospital in Linton. He was 87 years old, born March 4, 1919 in Linton, Indiana, the son of William Jackson and Lurca Storey Jackson.

Brownie Jackson was a barber in Indianapolis and Worthington, and retired from White River Valley Worthington School, where he worked in maintenance and as a bus driver. He was U.S. Army Veteran of WW II and was a Pearl Harbor Survivor. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Linton, the Worthington American Legion and the Worthington V. F. W.

Survivors include his wife, Orilla Jackson, the former Orilla Calvert; four sons, William Jackson and wife Michal Jackson of Newark, Delaware, Ronald Jackson and wife Laurie Jackson of Terre Haute, Indiana, Russell Jackson and wife Marion Jackson of Annandale, Virginia, and Randall Jackson and wife Nancy Jackson of Shelburn, Indiana; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joetta Adams of Burne, Indiana and Willetta Ellis and husband Mike Ellis of Bloomington, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington with Rev. Bill Beckelheimer officiating. Friends called at the funeral home from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2 and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. The place of burial was Worthington Cemetery.

Kent, Lois C.

Lois C. Kent of Lyons, Indiana, passed away at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at Lyons Health & Living Center. She was 81 years old, born September 28, 1925 in Greene County, Indiana, the daughter of Edward Canady and Ida Humerickhouse Canady.

Lois Kent retired from Greene County General Hospital in 1961 as the Head Dietician. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary #479 in Lyons and the VFW Auxiliary in Worthington, Indiana.

Her family included: one daughter, Sylvia Cunningham and her companion Michael Oakley of Lyons; one son, Curtis Teague of Terrell, Texas; three granddaughters, Rita Langhans and her husband Philip Langhans of Lyons, Diana Morrow of Linton, and Dawn Teague of Terrell, Texas; her great-grandchildren, Jaime and Adam Langhans of Lyons and Zeke Morrow of Linton; one stepson, Ned Kent and his wife Glenda Kent of Marco; and a nephew, Albert Canady and his wife Linda Canady of Midland. She was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Kent; her parents; two brothers; one sister; aunts and uncles; and one granddaughter, Lisa Joe Pigg.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday January 30, 2007 at Jenkins & Sons Funeral Home in Lyons, Indiana with Rev. Don Reed officiating. The American Legion Auxiliary will conduct a memorial service at 7:15 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Friends may call on Monday, January 29 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home and the hour prior to the service on Tuesday. The place of burial will be in Marco Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyons American Legion Auxiliary.

Catron, Larry Joe

Larry Joe Catron of Worthington, Indiana passed away at Baptist East Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, 2007. Larry Catron was 63 years old, born January 3, 1944 in Lafayette, Indiana, the son of Joseph S. Catron and Grace Pennington Catron.

Mr. Catron retired as principal of White River Valley Worthington Elementary and Junior High School in 1999 after 23 years of service. He had received a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Ball State University. He also served as a member of the Greene County Correctional Board and with CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocates for children.

His family included: his wife, Janet Lawrence of Worthington; five children, Brad Catron and wife  Stephanie Catron of Orinda, California, Cassandra Johnson and husband Clarence Johnson of Dugger, Indiana, Jill Swineford of Indianapolis, Jeremiah Lawrence and wife Mary Lawrence of Newport News, Virgina, and Justin Lawrence of Lodi, California; seven grandchildren including Hazel, Hank, Hayden, Owen, Casie, Jessie and Anastasia; two brothers, Jerry Catron and wife Glenna Catron of Florissant, Missouri and David Catron and wife Sondra Catron of Greenwood, Indiana; brother and sister-in-laws, Gary Marsh and Rita Marsh, Barbara Marsh, Susan Woodruff and Tom Woodruff and Pam Downard and Steve Downard; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2007 at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Worthington with Rev. Doug Sanders officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 24 and on Thursday from 12 noon until the time of service. The place of burial will be Worthington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Christopher Reeves Foundation at the funeral home.

Scott, Geneva Maxine

Geneva Maxine Scott of Bloomfield, Indiana passed away at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Lyons Health & Living Center. She was 86 years old, born June 3, 1920 in Greene County, Indiana, the daughter of Stanford Corya and Tabitha Kinaman Corya. Geneva Scott was a homemaker.

Her family included: one son, Gary Scott of Lyons, Indiana; two daughters, Waynetta Wessell of Mooresville, Indiana and Judy Pearson of Plainfield, Indiana; one brother, Bob Lee Corya of Muncie, Indiana; 12 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne M. Scott, on March 10, 1987; two brothers, Herschel Corya and Harold Corya; one sister, Inez Corya; one granddaughter, Robin Pearson; one great-grandson, Brandon Pearson; and and her parents.

Friends may call from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. Monday January 22, 2007 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield and 10:00 A.M. till the hour Tuesday.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Bloomfield, Indiana with Rev. Don Reed officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, January 22 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. The place of burial will be Worthington Cemetery in Worthington, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyons Health & Living Center Residence Fund in care of the funeral home.
