Gabbard, William Earl

WilliamGabbard.jpgWilliam Earl Gabbard of rural Jasonville, Indiana, died on Saturday morning, June 16, 2007, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.  He was 87 years old, born in Greene County, Indiana on May 19, 1920, the son of Orval Floyd and Sarah Elizabeth (Moulden) Gabbard.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a self-employed farmer and was retired from Peabody Coal Company.  He was a member of the Nine Mile Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #22, both in Linton, Indiana.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Ruth (Dewey) Gabbard of rural Jasonville; a daughter, Mary L. Gabbard of Bedford, Indiana; a son, Robert Earl Gabbard; a step-son, Mike Talpas and wife Cathey of rural Jasonville; a grandson, Jerry Lee Gabbard of Nashville, Tennessee; and a step-granddaughter, Jamie D’Lee Talpas of Jasonville.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma (Faulk) Gabbard; three brothers, Audrey Lowell Gabbard, his twin Marion “Murl” Gabbard and (infant) Paul Gabbard; and his parents.

A graveside service will be held at the Worthington Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20 with Rev. John Pierce officiating. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #22 of Linton.

Visitation will be held at the Welch & Cornett Funeral Home, Linton Chapel on Wednesday, June 20 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

Memorial Contributions can be made to the American Heart Association through the funeral home.
