Yard Sale Day Plans

In the 80s and clear skies - that's the current weather forecast for Worthington on yard sale day.  In years past, it sprinkled one year but cleared off quickly.  Another year, it rained early in the day but had cleared off by mid-morning.  So yard sale day has never been rained out.  This year looks to be another perfect selling day.

I looked through the past Times to see when yard sale day started - 1992 was the first year.  It was sponsored under the auspices of the WJ Ruritan Club by Lessalee Pickard and Jean Ingersoll.  After all three of those had passed away, the Worthington Lions Club stepped up to the plate and is the current sponsor.  This will be the 16th yard sale day.

Maps will be out today or tomorrow around town, including the Town Hall in the Municipal Building if you want one early.  The Provos will be placing the porta-potties around and at least one, maybe more of those are to be handicap-accessible.  Don't know where those will be located but they should be indicated on the map.

The Lions Club was going to try to contact Goodwill about coming down to accept donations (from sellers, of things that didn't sell) later in the day but that was not confirmed as of Monday.

Connie & Crew will be accepting donations of your leftover clothing at her barn just west of town on Terre Haute Road.  Those will be cleaned and sorted and given to appropriate charities.

Throughout the day, the WJVFD firefighters, along with Lions Club members, will be making the rounds to request donations from sellers.   The money that is collected will  be used to pay for the Lions Club's expenses to promote this day - porta-potties, ink and paper for flyers, advertising, etc.  If there's a profit, it will be split between the Lions Club and the WJVFD.
