Hoosier Neighbor in Worthington, Indiana - Jennifer Stefancik
Saturday, June 9, 2007
Jennifer Stefancik is employed by Glenburn Home in Linton to be the Meal Site Director at the Senior Citizens Center in Worthington, Indiana.
She was born and raised in Linton and stays close to her large family, especially her twin sister who frequently stops in to the Center for lunch.
After graduating from Linton-Stockton High School, Jennifer studied at Indiana State University in Terre Haute and received a Bachelor’s degree in Family and Consumer Sciences Education and a teaching license. She continued on in the same area and also received her Master’s degree from ISU.
Jennifer arrives at the Senior Center early each morning to start work on the lunchtime meals served in the Center and delivered to homebound folks through the Meals on Wheels program. She stays until the last dish is washed and the kitchen is ready for another day.
Since she spends much time serving up food, and doing the dishes too, it may not be evident that she is impressively qualified for this position. The ISU program is recognized as one of the best, especially in the area of nutrition. Jennifer “knows her stuff.”
She has been warmly welcomed and appreciated at the Center because she goes the extra mile on her job. She decorates the tables and adds little touches to make things more cheery for the lunch crowd.
Since the menu is determined by an outside agency, Jennifer watches and when she thinks a little something more would make it nicer, she goes to the store, buys extra ingredients and stirs it up. She recently treated her Seniors to a homemade rhubarb upside-down cake.
Jennifer is quiet but quick to smile and though she seems content to work behind the scenes, her positive influence is evident the minute you walk in the door of the center. All the many things she does show she cares about others and she’s certainly made a pleasant difference for many Seniors in Worthington.
Applause and cheers for Jennifer!
