Update on murder of Worthington native Jerry Need

I wrote a couple of short updates for the GCDW about the Jerry Need murder case.  Jerry was a Worthington native who was killed in Terre Haute about 14 years ago during the course of a robbery.  He was a cab driver and it was front page news at the time.  The case became an unsolved mystery and only in the last year, two men were finally charged with the murder.  Here are links to the articles on the GCDW website - Story One and Story Two.  The first arrest was made last August, and while waiting trial, this defendant (Allsup) was let out of jail on a technicality.  The other one (Perry) was in prison in California for six armed robberies, was extradited, made an plea agreement and testified against Allsup.  It got quite complicated, as many trials do. If you are interested in reading more details about the case, which will probably be in the news again as Allsup is expected to appeal, go to the Tribune Star (Terre Haute newspaper) website and do a search for articles about "Jerry Need" and also on "William Allsup" and "Lamar Perry."  (When I am searching there, I find I need to search on more than just Jerry's name to locate all of the stories.)  Stories on the tribstar.com site detail much of the testimony during the trial which I didn't cover in the articles for GCDW.  The Needs were a large family, the children attended Worthington-Jefferson and some may recall they lived in a big house at the top of Vinegar Hill.  Jerry's parents and one of his brothers have passed on but Jerry's wife and other family members attended the trial.
