VFW hosts Flag Retirement Ceremony on Flag Day -with Greene County Veterans Council
Thursday, June 14, 2007 Snapshots from the Flag Retirement Ceremony held this evening, Flag Day, at the VFW in Worthington, Indiana with representatives of the Greene County Veterans Council, Greene County Veterans Affairs and the Worthington Girl Scout Troop 1461 and Brownie Troop 1238. Flag Day at the VFW: Local VFW Commander Dave Dove invited Worthington Girl Scout Troop 1461 to participate in this year’s Flag Retirement Ceremony on June 14, Flag Day.
Dove said this is an annual event at VFW Post 7117, held in cooperation with the Greene County Veterans Council and the Greene County Veterans Affairs office.
The Greene County Veterans Council is composed of two representatives from each veterans organization in the county. Bill Perkins is the president.
The event was organized by Dove who reported over 250 flags were ceremoniously burned.
With veterans serving as standard-bearers, the Scouts conducted the entire ceremony, serving as Chaplain, Commander and Sergeant-at-Arms. Veterans tended the fire and performed the actual burning.
Scouts participating included Courtney French, Chantel Bredeweg, Cassie Pipkins, Kayti Savage and Virginia Rochelle with Brownies Sierra Speer, Desiree Clayton and Samanthe Clayton.
