Flags fly in Worthington, and the Worthington Cemetery would benefit from our donations
Flags were flying all over town this past Memorial Day holiday. In the picture below, flags surrounded the home of a decorated veteran over on the east side.

The Worthington Cemetery was also decorated with many colorful flowers and flags over the holiday and everything looked very nice.
Some remember when the holiday was called Decoration Day—children carried flowers and townspeople would walk to the cemetery in a parade where a brass band would play, speeches would be given, prayers would be offered and folks would spend time walking about remembering those who had sacrificed and served our country.
Today our cemetery is a bit quieter over Memorial Day but it still touches the heart to see all of the tributes left by families for their loved ones. We can thank Worthington’s veterans organizations for always placing flags on the graves of veterans for holidays and thank the cemetery board for keeping the grounds looking so good.
The Worthington Cemetery Board is composed of unpaid volunteers and our cemetery relies primarily on donations to pay expenses. This year the budget has been a bit tight, so a small donation box with a sign has been erected alongside the road in front of the cemetery. Contributions both large and small would be greatly appreciated.
The pictures below are of the monument for for US Army SSG Matthew A. Kimmell of Worthington, Indiana, who gave his life serving his country in 2005 during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
